Learn More About Motorcycle Insurance

Are you considering owning a motorcycle? We can give you the coverage it needs.

If you ride a motorcycle, you likely have a higher-than-average risk tolerance. You can still enjoy the ride, but be wise, and transfer some of the risk through insurance. By purchasing a quality insurance policy, you are transferring the financial risk of causing bodily injury or property damage to an insurance company. Typical expenses resulting from motorcycle accidents include doctor's visits, hospital stays, prescription medications, physical therapy, home health care, lost work wages, and even funerals. If you cause property damage to another vehicle, or roadside property such as a house, garage, fence, guardrail, mailbox, or even someone’s pet, you will be asked to pay for the damage. Do you want to carry the financial burden of paying for these expensive costs?

You may also consider insuring your motorcycle for physical damage. If you own a motorcycle that is worth more than the cost to repair it after a collision, you should purchase “collision coverage”. Likewise, you can purchase coverage for theft, vandalism, natural disasters, and weather conditions, such as hail, fire, and flood. This is called “comprehensive coverage”. Does your bike have custom parts or equipment installed after it left the factory? If so, these parts and equipment must be insured with a special endorsement called CPE (Custom Parts and Equipment). Our agents can help you add this special coverage to your policy.

Motorcyclists are 35 times more likely to die in a fatal crash than drivers of a passenger vehicle. This is one reason why in many states, helmets are required for all people riding a motorcycle. Personal protective equipment can save your life in an accident or wipe-out. Be sure to invest in your safety with items such as quality boots, gloves, jacket/vest, eyewear, and most importantly, a US DOT-approved helmet.

How to meet your needs?

If you own a scooter, motorcross, dirt bike, moped, trike, or traditional motorcycle, you most likely need a motorcycle insurance policy. Insurance requirements vary from state to state, but your risk of an accident is high in all territories and an insurance policy is perhaps your safest solution for protecting yourself from financial injury. Many states require motorcycle owners to have an insurance policy. Typically, motorcycles that exceed 30mph or are 50cc or greater require registration and insurance. Check with your state Department of Transportation or consult with one of our agents to determine if you must insure your motorcycle for personal liability.

Accidents are more likely when riding a motorcycle, and bodily injury to you, your passengers, another driver, or a pedestrian will lead you into a financial disaster. Because of this heightened risk, we recommend that your insurance policy is equipped with more than ‘state minimum required liability limits’. Minimum limits are not likely to help you if you are involved in a serious accident, and once your insurance coverage is exhausted, your assets, income, and future income will all be exposed for others’ financial recovery. Boynton Insurance Group will consult with you to discuss policy options to protect your personal assets and income.
